Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Ultimate Collection, Vol 1 By Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird, Edited by Justin Eisinger and Alonzo Simon

Aaah, a trip down Childhood lane ❤ I may just be dating myself with this but I don’t care. XD

Like most kids at the time, I grew up watching 4 Mutant Turtles (and one respectable Rat Sensei) practicing Martial Arts and beating up a talking brain in a weird radiation suit, an overly sharp human Ninja Master, a pair of 80’s techno minions in the form of a Rhino and a Warthog, along with hundreds of masked gang members in black and purple costumes! You all know you’re thinking about the theme-song right now, admit it. ;3

Leonardo Leads, Donatello does Machines, Raphael is cool but rude, Michelangelo is a party dude!

So when I found out my library still had this bind up of the ORIGINAL comics sitting around? You KNOW I had to check it out! Even though our pizza-loving ninjas have been revamped and remade dozens of times now, wandering down the road of generations (hey, my baby cousins can still watch TMNT!) I’ve never even really considered picking up the comic books before. I loved the Cartoon versions and wasn’t a big reader anyways at the time. I regret it, always.

That said, let’s jump into the comics!

TMNT #1, The Turtles’ Origin is Told – Aaah, the Classic Origins Story, how the 4 ninja brothers and their Master came to be. If you’ve seen ANY version of TMNT (or READ any version!) you should know most of the story by know! I always stuck to the toons/movies versions so I never knew Shredder wasn’t who he’s been made out to be! It was so weird reading the original story and noticing the differences!

TMNT #2, TMNT vs The Mousers – OH HEY! We know this girl, even though we’ve never met her before, it’s APRIL! Welcome to the Team, April! Hope you know what you’re getting into!

TMNT #3, the Great Chase – After the turtles find out about their master, they need some help, and guess who? it’s April again! Things just aren’t going their way though, and trouble keeps following them!

Micro-Issue #1, Raphael: Me, Myself, and I – You all know there’s another human companion to the TMNT, and this is his intro! Raphael gets a good look at some less-than-pleasant parts of his own personality, and gets to meet his new buddy CASEY JONES in the process! Hockey Mask and all!

TMNT #4, Rescuing Master Splinter – Splinter is still missing, but a twist provided by our favorite Ninja baddies (the Foot Clan), the TMNT find a clue that leads to More then what they expected!

TMNT #5, Teaming Up with Fugitoid – Whoa! So the Guys have been sent somewhere new and ALL CHAOS BREAKS LOSE!We get a new character as well, Honeycutt!

TMNT #6, The Triceraton Homeworld – Ooooh, so much going on in this issue! Honeycutt’s in trouble, and so are the guys!

TMNT #7, All is Revealed – Everything’s going nuts now! The Guys are back but they’re not out of trouble, Honeycuttstill has his own problems, and Splinter still needs his Sons! What a great story, though!

Bwehehehe! Poor Grover though, No breaks for him, even if he is Lord of the Wild and all.

  • Bouncing The Grinning Goat By Shannon Hale

Woo! I love a good ‘discovering Magic’ story! X3 This seems like an awesome intro to a longer series, I’ll have to do some poking around for this one!

  • The Scout By D. J. MacHale

Sigh, Secrets, they never end well. Poor Kit.

  • Rise of the RoboShoes By Tom Angleberger

Meh, just some randomness.

  • The Dirt on Our Shoes By Neal Shusterman

Interesting way to start a colony on a planet far, far away. I could see it happening too, maybe not how it happened in the story, but… yea… sent a bunch of microbes out into space and such. Plants too.

  • Plan B By Rebecca Stead

Bwehehehehehe! Alien Cats!

  • A Day in the Life By Shaun Tan

This made no sense at all, but yay for pictures!

  • The Klack Bros. Museum By Kenneth Oppel

Poor Ghost boy, but at least he’s free now.

  • The Warlords of Recess By Eric Nylund

Rules are Rules! X3

  • Frost and Fire By Ray Bradbury

Wow o.o I can’t imagine living in a world where life happens only in the span of 8 or 11 days.

Just Julie By Nadia Xerri-L. / I Am Not Emmanuelle By Carine Tardieu

If your looking at this post your probably going ‘What? Why two books this time, by two different Authors?”

Your answer, is these two are paired together in a 1 Book/2 Stories Flip book. In one Half is one story, Turn the book around and  flip it to the ‘back’ cover and you get a whole new story.

  • Just Julie By Nadia Xerri-L.

I don’t really understand this story. It’s choppy and kind of written like a diary style, but it also enters the thoughts of the Main Character, Julie, who’s having problems dealing with a Tragedy involving one of her Brothers. I just finished it and I’m still going ‘what the hells?’. o.o

  • I Am Not Emmanuelle By Carine Tardieu

This kinda made sense, but not really? Better then the first story in this book but it’s all choppy and weird. The overall flow is all start and stop but the feels are there.

Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde and Other Stories of the Supernatural By Robert Louis Stevenson

  • Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde – What happens when Doctor Henry Jekyll, an up and coming, somewhat well known scientist, turns his scientific curiosities towards the true nature of man? He’s about to find out, and though it might delight his scientific mind at first, his experiments bring Danger to his very doorstep.
Edward Hyde, on the other hand, fears not the specter of Danger, and in fact, revels in it, and Blood-lust, and Pain. Addicted to the natural high of violence, Hyde shows no signs of halting his bad behavior, nor returning to his slumbering ways.
  • The Bottle Imp – Keawe, a Hawaiian Native, traveling one day, discovers a man with a strange fortune in the form of a bottle. Keawe’s curiosity gets the better of him, and as the tale of the bottle and it’s leads to fortune are explained to him, he was wiser to trust his first doubts then to do as he did, but the deed is done, and now come the consequences. After all, it is only a bottle, what harm could a bottle do…?
  • Markheim – A Clock-dealer, Christmas, and a horrible, horrible driving force lead Markheim to an act of violence, will he be caught? Can he be saved from himself?
  • The Body-Snatcher – Medicine hasn’t ever had a pristine start, But what Two Medical Students do to further knowledge weights heavily on their consciences. Until they forget their involvement at least, but then, who knows, maybe their past will come back to haunt them.

Side Jobs By Jim Butcher

  • A Restoration of Faith

Harry learns a very big lesson from a little girl.

  • Vignette

It’s all about the publicity when your getting a business off the ground, or keeping it running.

  • Something Borrowed

True love for a few wolves, who woulda seen this coming? D’aw, so cute.

  • It’s My Birthday, Too

Valentines Day holds a Super-Special meaning for Harry, but like many things for our dear wizard, it doesn’t exactly go as planned!

  • Heorot

Oooh boy. Poor Harry. He never gets the easy cases does he? On the plus side, he gets to meet a very special lady, and by special I mean Supernatural, bwahaha!

  • Day Off

Covered this one in a review of Blood Lite, but I’ll say it again. Poor Harry, there’s no such thign as a day off. X3

  • Backup

EEE! Finally a story focused on Tomas! I haven’t seen him much in the  series just yet, I’m only up to Blood Rites as I post this, but he’s always seemed pretty awesome for a Vampire.

  • The Warrior

Pretty heavy ending for this story. Lots to think about here. Michael and Harry as a team once more on the whole though, fighting against things that need fighting against, on different levels.

  • Last Call

Not Mac’s Beer! That’s right, someone’s messing with the brewer. Harry’s on the case, and so is Murphy! Now, who’s messing with the brews?

  • Love Hurts

Seems the pain never stops for poor Harry. This time he’s up against a bit of a challenge along with Murphy. Wonder how they’ll walk away from this one.

  • Aftermath

Say it ain’t so!!! Dresden’s out of the picture this time, but Murphy and the Werewolves seem to have things well in hand, for the moment. Like Dresden once noted, Murphy might not look like a Monster-hunting Valkyrie, but that’s what she is, she just has a gun instead of a sword. Huzzah!
